Hampden Way: February 2022

We’ve had a very busy month which started with us celebrating Lunar New Year. It’s the year of the tiger, so we’ve looked at books about tigers and painted them too. We’ve looked at Chinese writing and enjoyed lots of sensory play. We have also been reading this book ‘The Circles all around us.’ This book really compliments our curriculum of three interconnecting worlds: my world, the world around me and the world beyond. The book starts with the child in the centre and looks at how our circles grow to include family, friends and the wider community. We have been creating lots of artwork using circles at nursery and been drawing our circles including who and what are in them. We started with who is in our family, who our friends are and then all sorts of other things in the world that we love.

Continuing the theme of Circles, we have been looking at the artwork of Wassily Kandinsky and using circles to create our own works of art and finding lots of circles in the nursery to use in our play. We’ve played with hoops, moved in a circular motion in cones and made big chalk circles in the garden.

We also had a visit from the Barnet oral health community team to teach us how to look after our teeth.

We hope you enjoy looking at what we’ve been up to.

Ofsted Outstanding
  • Together, you research effective education practice, tailoring it to support the development needs of every child. As a result, all children make substantial gains in their learning. They are very well prepared for primary school.

    Ofsted

  • You have a clear vision for the school and are supported by excellent practitioners at every level. You and your team reflect continually on what is best for the children in your care.

    Ofsted

  • Parents commented that, even the small things, like the issuing of fridge magnets with a picture of their children’s key worker, really helped their children to get ready for their time at the school and to settle in swiftly. Right from day one, there is a friendly face to meet and greet them.
